In Psalm 139, David is reflecting on his life, and on God’s extraordinary faithfulness to him.
He says, “You hem me in, behind and before.” We often talk about knowing the blessing and protection of being in the Palm of God’s hand. What’s more, not only does Jesus sit at the right hand of the Father, He IS the right Hand of the father.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not fear for I am with you. Be not afraid, for I am at your side. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will Uphold you, by my victorious Right Hand.” Our friend for whom our son Benjamin is named, says there is no better first name, because it means, “Son of the Right Hand.”
I find that I am at my best when I trust that when I took hold of God – weakly, with variable faithfulness – God took hold of me, strongly and stubbornly. This means that though all hell should align against me, I am safe – safe within God’s Hemming Palm. Let’s walk together, safe in His care.
