spending time wisely

On occasion we have heard that we are to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus during our time on earth.  What does that mean? My understanding is that God is in His heaven, with Jesus beside Him, so it is up to us to continue Jesus’ earthly ministry:

“After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.”  [Mark 16:19]

How do we know how God wants us to work with our hands? May I suggest that all we have to do is look around with God’s viewpoint:

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”[Ephesians 2:10]

How else can we use our hands?

“I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.”[I Timothy 2:8]

My understanding of being the ‘feet of Jesus’ involves whatever travels one undertakes to spread the Word:

“And how can they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written,’How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'”[Romans 10:15, from Isaiah 52:7]

“Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news…”[Nahum 1:15a]

What was the starting point of followers being the hands and feet of Jesus? Boldly may I offer that it was when the hands and feet of Jesus were nailed to the cross:

“When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals–one on his right, the other on his left.”[Luke 23:33]

The hands and the feet of the Savior were pierced for me, and for you.  May we use our unpierced hands and feet to spread the message of salvation, only available by faith in Jesus, to anyone God puts before us.

Blessings,
