Happy Thanksgiving to everyone
During the course of Jesus’ three years of ministry on this earth, He performed miracles of all types. He healed the blind and the deaf. He healed many from debilitating disease. He caused the lame to walk again. But the most spectacular miracles He performed were when He brought the dead back to life:
“When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out!‘ The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.” [John 11:43-44]
“Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, ‘ Young man, I say to you, get up!‘ The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.” [Luke 7:14-15]
“While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. ‘Your daughter is dead,’ he said. ‘Don’t bother the teacher any more….But he took her by the hand and said, ‘My child, get up!‘ Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up.” [Luke 8:49, 53-55a,b]
I’m certain that the stories of these resurrections spread throughout the land, so we might be tempted to ridicule these people for not recognizing that they were visited by the Son of God, who had the power to raise the dead. Plus that was 2000 years ago. He couldn’t raise the dead today, could He? But I say, not so fast:
“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,…But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved.”[Ephesians 2:1, 4-5]
“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. [Romans 6:11]
When I was a younger man, I was dead. But now I am alive, and count myself among the millions of resurrection miracles Jesus continues to perform to this day. Have you been resurrected from the dead?
Blessings,
Keith
