Happy November, everyone–
Back when I was a strapping young lad (whatever that means), I envisioned myself as a world-class athlete. Didn’t we all. I even set up a high jump area on the barn floor. I was going to be 6-feet 7 inches tall and weigh 235 pounds. Today, I can proudly announce that I have achieved one of those goals. Isn’t it funny how we so quickly think of ourselves, like this guy:
“The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men–robbers, evildoers, adulterers- or even like this tax collector.'” [Luke 18:11]
Isn’t it more important how others think of us:
“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” [Matthew 5:16]
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” [I Peter 4:10]
But as easy as it is to think of ourselves, or as important as it is regarding how others think of us, they pale in importance as we get to the main point, which is, how does God think of us:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” [John 3:16]
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant…'” [Matthew 25:21a]
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes….” [Revelation 21:4a]
Blessings,
