The Billy Graham Challenge

During the recent study of the Book of Daniel, the following verse was highlighted by the teacher, Keith Myers, as well as many in the class: “Now when Daniel learned that the decree (to not pray for 30 days to anyone except King Darius) had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” [Dan. 6:10] Daniel did this for decades. What discipline he showed! In a more current example of discipline, Billy Graham would read one chapter of Proverbs (and five Psalms) every day. For decades. Putting aside the Psalms for the moment, I wondered what it would be like if many (most? all?) members of our church resolved to read, for the month of January, one chapter of Proverbs every day – 31 days, 31 chapters. So let’s call this The Billy Graham Challenge, to carefully, and prayerfully, read each chapter on a daily schedule to see what God has to say to us, either individually or collectively. Who knows what God has to say to us during the month of January. There’s only one way to find out.
