The Gift, Presence, and Power of the Holy Spirit

For the past couple of years or so, God has been impressing on my mind a subject that I want to share with you.  I had written about this subject once before (1/10/25 if you want to check your archives!), but now I would like to explore this subject further.  And the subject is (are you sitting down?) the gift, the presence, the power of the Holy Spirit.  I had mentioned before that God’s Spirit is introduced in the second verse of the Bible in the book of Genesis:

[1] “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  [2] Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

Here you may be wondering why I’m writing a second email on the Holy Spirit.  So glad you asked.  It’s because our Search Committee, and the entire church for that matter, needs to have faith that the Holy Spirit will be ‘hovering over’ all of our deliberations as we determine who God has called to be our next Senior Pastor.  Plus we need to be assured that the Spirit of God will be ‘calling’ that minister into our midst.

I want to conclude with just a couple of verses in the Word which speak to the power of the Holy Spirit:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;…“ [Acts 1:8a]

Thank you, Jesus, for your promise.  And Paul writes:

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

We live in perilous times, surrounded by evil.  Believers should thank the Good Lord that we have, living inside of us, mind you, the promised Comforter, who has His arm wrapped around the shoulders of our soul.

Thank you, Good Lord,

Keith

P.S.–there will likely be no email next week, as Nanci and I will be away to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, which happens to fall on Friday, October 9th.  God is good.
