Never Forget: Remembering 9/11

How remiss I would be if I didn’t recognize the importance of today’s date, the 25th (can you believe it) anniversary of the attack on our country on 9/11/01.  It is proper if we took a moment to remember the almost 3000 innocent Americans who perished on that day………..

Signs were erected stating “We will never forget”.  But now, a mere 25 years later, we have political pundits advising candidates that America ‘deserved’ 9/11.  These Democratic Socialists of America have as their platform the following changes on which they would like us to agree:

1) eliminate jails, police, and ICE

2) eliminate the Senate, the Supreme Court, and alter the presidency

3) institute universal health care and a guaranteed wage

4) eliminate all borders and give amnesty to all illegal aliens

You have the right to agree with any or all of the above proposals.  Similarly, I have the right to my opinion, which is that any of them would lead to chaos, a weakening of America, both domestically and internationally, and perhaps the eventual ruination of our country.

How did we get here?  I’ll tell you, using one example from New York City.  Not every person is registered to vote, but of those who are, less than 42% of them voted in the recent election for mayor.  So Mayor Mamdani won a majority from the 42% who voted, while 58% didn’t even bother to show up. Other DSA candidates won their elections while 85% sat on the sidelines.  How many millions of people around the world would kill (figuratively? literally?) to have the freedom we have to elect their leaders?  I have been to Arlington National Cemetery and the cemetery in Europe where General Patton and thousands of his troops are buried.  Too many citizens are not aware of what our freedoms have cost.  In the past 40 years, virtually every election has been decided by the largest group of citizens I know of, the NON-VOTERS. That’s how we got here.

Apologies to all for diverting from my usual study of the Bible, but this has been on my mind for quite some time.  The word ‘vote’ is mentioned only once in the NIV Bible, but what is a vote?  Is it not a choice we make, and ‘choice’, ‘choose’, etc. are mentioned over 160 times.  The Word is full of choices, good and bad. Of course, the first bad choice was when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. God is pleased when we make good choices, so let me close with one of my favorite passages about choosing:

“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you (the Israelites), then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living.  But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”  [Joshua 24:15]

Choose, and vote, wisely.  And never forget.

Blessings,

Keith
