“The optimist says the glass is half full. The pessimist says the glass is half empty. The comedian says the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.” My point? Your outlook on life is informed by how you look at things. Do you view life from an optimistic or pessimistic viewpoint? If you’re a news junkie (I’ve heard they exist), you couldn’t be blamed by thinking pessimistically, as 94.7% of the news is negative. Stories about crime, natural disasters, and political idiocy dominate. In fact, one could assume that demonic influences prevail:
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”[Ephesians 6:12]
The psalmist expressed similar, negative thoughts about some people:
“How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant?” (Psalm 94:3]
It would be so easy to allow these negative influences control your life. So easy. On the other hand, one could choose to focus on the more positive aspects of life, things like how God continues to work in the world:
“For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands.” [Psalm 92:4]
Every time a prayer is answered, God is at work.
Every time a song lifts your heart, God is at work.
Every time a sermon delivers the message you need, God is at work.
Every time someone comforts you just when you need it, God is at work.
Every time a newborn baby cries, God is at work.
Every time someone surrenders to the Lordship of Jesus, God is at work.
Every time you marvel at a beautiful sunset, God is at work.
Wouldn’t life be better if we focused more on what God is doing? I’m here to tell you that we do, in fact, have the ability to do just that. And you get to choose.
Blessings,
Keith
